Four local referees were recognized for the quality of their work with assignments at the BC Soccer Association Provincial A Cup championships.

Nik Dyer, Atle Koellmel, Katie Fung, and Jong In Lee worked the provincials, which was held July 2-6 in Burnaby.

Referees earn selection to match appointments by their performance and development throughout the season. Dyer, Koellmel and Fung all received four match assignments, including appointments to medal games. Unfortunately, Lee suffered an injury that took him out of the tournament.

In addition to working one match each day, referees also received high performance training with daily on-field practical sessions, as well as classroom technical sessions. Assessments of their performance are intense and ongoing, with feedback provided on their work as referees, assistant referees and in educational sessions.

West Coast Auto Group FC referee coordinator Tim Blaine and former head referee Nigel Colclough have also put in long hours at the BCSA Referee Instructors and Assessors Symposium, which is held in conjunction with the tournament.  Their ongoing training will further support the continued development of local officials.
