It was a memorable week for Ridge Meadows BMX. While the club was hosting the provincial championships at its track in Pitt Meadows, two of its brightest stars were winning medals at the world championships.
Alex Tougas took a gold medal at the world championships in the Dutch city Rotterdam, and his teammate from Ridge, Tory Nyhaug, won silver.
Back at their home track, many of the club members were winning provincial titles.
Ridge BMX hosted the B.C. championships on Saturday, then a B.C. Cup race on Sunday at the Pitt Meadows race track. The B.C. Cup race was the seventh in an eight-race series that will wrap up in Abbotsford in August.
There were numerous top-three finishes from members of the Ridge Meadows BMX club in both events.
On Saturday, there were 154 entries in a number of difference classes.
Jared Ennis of Maple Ridge was the provincial champion in the junior male category.
Erin Kinnie finished third in the elite female class.
Nate Berkheimer finished second in the elite male category.
In a large group of 19 riders in the 5-6 male class, Xavier Murray took first, and Dallen Brereton-Stiles second.
In the age 5-7 female class, Cayden Libby won in a field of five riders, Kamryn Howlett was second and Elana Knight third. Bryne Harvey won the age 8 female class.
Natalie Schmidt won the 16 female class.
Caleb Dobie won the 10 male class.
In the 12 male class Ryan Tougas – brother of the aforementioned world champ – took first, and Jackson Juriga second.
Logan Macdonald was second in the 13 male event, and Aidan Macdonald won the 15 male class.
Jay Harvey was the top 30-and-over male.
Christine Baron was second in the cruiser 35-39 female class. In the cruiser 35-39 class, Rory Ennis took first and Curtis Jensen second. In cruiser 40-44 Ryan Dobie was third, and in cruiser 45 and over Mark Sherrington was second and Ken Nunes third.
