Ridge Meadows lacrosse players among the elite in Florida

Local girls were part of  B.C. teams that competed at a women’s field lacrosse tournamentin Florida.

The B.C. Lacrosse Association’s women’s senior and sophomore teams were at the deBeer President’s Cup Recruiting Tournament.

It was held at the Wide World of Sports Complex at Disney World in Orlando, and Lake Myrtle Sports Park in Auburndale, Nov. 21-23.

The senior squad had three wins and a tie at the three-day event.

That team included Maple Ridge players Megan Kinna, Daniela Carey and Ciara Curran, and the head coach was Pat Coyle of Pitt Meadows.

In the final game, the B.C. seniors team defeated Texas Tenacity 12-11.

The Team B.C. sophomores had a win and three losses.

That team included locals Candace McDole, Alexandra Walton, Megan Stewart, Mikayla Quinn, Nicole Pahnke, Ashley Kingsbury and Sarah Ickert.

A large contingent of NCAA college recruiting coaches attended each game, scouting Team B.C. athletes.

Team B.C. field lacrosse co-ordinator Reynold Comeault  of Pitt Meadows said the athletes showed well.

“Countless NCAA coaches raved about Team B.C. athletes, pointing out their excellent stick skills and ability to make quick decisions,” he said.

“The sophomore team’s first experience with the high-caliber women’s field lacrosse competitions was very much an eye opener. Through perseverance and training sessions the past two months, the girls’ performance improved each minute.”

The Team B.C. women’s field lacrosse teams continue to train for the 2015 Sandstorm Lacrosse Festival in Indio, California on Jan. 17-18.
