Ridge Meadows Royals squads continue winning ways

While pouring rain cancelled baseball games across the Lower Mainland last weekend, the weather cleared up on Sunday just long enough for the Ridge Meadows rep squads to squeeze in a pair of double-headers.

The Ridge Meadows Royals midget AAA baseball team bounced back from a controversial 2-1 road loss to the Chilliwack Cougars last Wednesday with a win and a tie in their double-header with the Coquitlam A’s Sunday at the Albion Sports Complex in Maple Ridge.

Game 1 saw the teams tie 4-4, before the Royals bats awoke in Game 2 for a 7-1 victory.

With the win, the midget Royals are now 20-4-1 this season, and are fourth in the B.C. Minor Baseball standings with a record of 9-3 in league play.

After winning 13 straight games, the midget squad has gone 5-3-1 in their last nine games, winning just two of their last five.

The midget Royals face the Cloverdale Spurs tonight at 7 p.m. at home.

The bantam AAA Royals also had a strong showing last weekend, sweeping the North Shore Twins in their double-header Sunday afternoon at the Pitt Meadows Athletics Fields.

The Royals edged the Twins in their first game of the day 3-2, before shellacking them 11-3 in the second game.

After winning just two of their first 10 games, the bantam Royals have now rattled off seven straight victories to stand at 9-5-3 so far this year. The bantam Royals are currently fourth in the B.C. Minor Baseball standings with a league record of 5-1-1.

In junior men’s action, the Ridge Meadows Royals dismantled the Ridge Meadows Expos 8-1 in an evening game at the Albion Sports Complex, Sunday night. The junior Royals are tied for tops in the league with a perfect 3-0 record so far this season.

The Ridge Meadows Mudhens, meanwhile, topped the Coquitlam/Moody Reds 9-5 at home at Albion, Sunday afternoon.
