The Port Coquitlam Ridge Meadows Ringette Association is preparing for the provincial championship tournaments starting in March, with a few exhibition games.
Over the weekend, the association’s U14 Zone 1 team, comprised of the Port Coquitlam Ridge Meadows Ringette Association and Coquitlam Moody Ringette Association, were part of two exhibition games in Pitt Meadows, against the Zone 5 team from Vernon Ringette Association and Shuswap Ringette Association.
According to head coach Dave Clarke, Zone 5 travelled to play the local teams after a tournament set in Kelowna for the next weekend, was cancelled due to COVID restrictions.
“This part of the season is crucial because the provincial championship tournament is just three weeks away, from March 4 to 6, in Coquitlam. We have a few league games remaining against opponents based in the Lower Mainland and then the final tournament. We normally compete at the Port Coquitlam Community Centre,” said Clarke.

Two athletes, one each from Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows, are part of the Port Coquitlam Ridge Meadows Ringette Association, said the coach.
In the first exhibition game played on Feb. 5, Zone 5 won 4-1, however the next game played on Sunday, saw the Zone 1 team take the visitors 9-5.
“The experience was a great one for both teams with two spirited and evenly matched games,” said the Port Coquitlam Ridge Meadows Ringette Association.
