Royals undefeated at Cloverdale tourney

The Ridge Meadows Royals won  the annual Cloverdale Rodeo bantam AA baseball tournament this past weekend.

The Royals went undefeated over the four-day event, amassing 43 runs for while surrendering 24 against. The team received great pitching from Travis Quick, Clayton Lycan, Domenic Baptista and Zachery Comeault.

The Royals bats came through when required, as well, with Andrew Thorsteinson hitting a timely home run in the semi-finals and Austin Murray banging a bases-loaded triple in the bottom of the sixth of the same game, allowing the Royals to escape with an 8-7 victory.

The final was anti-climatic as the Royals trounced the host Cloverdale Spurs 9-3. The bats of Matt Cameron, Devon Draper, Ryan Lipscombe, and Randolph Ocampo provided the offence for the Royals to coast through the championship game with Ryley Leoppky providing the defence behind the plate, picking off three runners attempting to steal second in the final game alone.

With the five wins at the tournament, the Royals stretch their unbeaten streak to 12 games with league action continuing Wednesday night at Pitt Meadows Athletic Park.
