Pitt Meadows Golf Club member A.J. Ewart has been chosen to compete for Team Canada.
A group of young men and women were recently selected to represent the Canadian national and development teams. The teams are comprised of 16 elite junior golfers, and 17-year-old Ewart was among them.
Ewart is the lone returning member to the men’s development squad in 2017, following a season that featured runner-up finishes at the B.C. Junior and Amateur Boys Championships. The Coquitlam, B.C. product tied for 14th among Canadian junior boys. In 2015, Ewart garnered a runner-up finish at the CN Future Links Prairie Championship alongside a win at the B.C. Juvenile Championships.
Some highlights of his career include:
• A second-place finish at the 2016 B.C. Men’s Amateur Championship;
• second at the 2016 B.C. Junior Boys’ Championship;
• tied for fourth at the 2016 Winn Grips Heather Farr Classic hosted by Longbow Golf Club;
• second at the 2016 CJGA Western Jr (under-19);
• fourth at 2016 CJGA Junior at Cordova Bay (u-19).
Ewart had a remarkable season on the CJGA circuit in 2013, winning a total of five events.

This week, the Samuel Robertson Technical Titans found themselves ranked in the province’s top 10 junior varsity football teams.
The Titans were rewarded for their results these last few weeks with the seventh ranking.
Last Wednesday, the Titans took on previously fourth-ranked Langley secondary and came away with a 42-19 victory.
The Titans’ staunch defence was led in tackles by Jevon Annotushkin, who had 10 tackles, followed by Gavin Mulcahy with nine, and Brock Pelwecki, who had seven tackles.
Back from injury was outstanding grade 10 Brayden Hamilton, who made his presence know with an interception, which he returned 35 yards for a touchdown.
The Titans were led on offence by the strong play of quarterback Cody Hogarth and the rushing game of Adesola Adegbola (70 yards on two carries) and Annotushkin (57 yards and a rushing TD).
SRT is back in action this Thursday at Holy Cross Secondary in Surrey. Their last regular season matchup is Wednesday, Nov. 2 at home vs G.W Graham from Chilliwack.
Cascades third
After a promsing start, the UFV Cascades men finished ninth at the CCAA national golf championships, and Maple Ridge’s Connor O’Dell tied for 30th individually after shooting plus-12.
The Cascades were tied for fourth after Thursday’s second round at Fox Meadow Golf Course in Stratford, PEI, but struggled in extremely windy, rainy conditions on Friday.
Bruins in tough
Both Ridge Meadows Bruins rugby teams had unsuccessful weekends of rugby.
The men lost 45-21 against the Squamish Axemen, one of the top teams in their division.
At times the game was very evenly matched, but a few defensive slips on the part of the Bruins resulted in a score line that doesn’t reflect how close of a match it truly was.
The women lost 36-5 against the Scribes after suffering poorly timed injuries that will put more pressure on a season where their numbers are already low.
The men have a bye this weekend while the women are faced with a home game against the Kelowna Crows.
