Shorts: Maple Ridge Ladies Golf Club seeks new members

Alouette Power and Sail Squadron holding free safety checks this weekend

The Maple Ridge Ladies Golf Club is looking for new members.

The group plays Tuesday mornings at 9 a.m. at the Maple Ridge Golf Course, usually for 9-hole rounds.

All skill levels and ages are welcome to join. Prospects can also sit in on a round before committing to a membership.

Captain Gay McMillan says the club is a great way for women to meet new people and get some exercise.

If you’re interested in joining, contact McMillan at 604-467-3383. There are also details about the group on the Maple Ridge Golf Course website.

Free boat inspection

The Alouette Power and Sail Squadron is holding a free safety check for recreational vessels on Saturday, June 24 at the Alouette Lake boat launch in Golden Ears Park.

The event is being held in partnership with Transport Canada, with assistance from the Ridge Meadows RCMP Marine Unit.

Boat owners can bring their vessel down for an inspection to ensure they have all the proper safety equipment on board, as well as up-to-date licensing.

Those who pass the inspection will be confident they will pass an official RCMP safety check.

Squad commander Richard Robinson says the event is being held to ensure there are less tragedies on the water, and to spread the message of safe boating.

Those interested in attending can check out the squad’s Facebook page for further details.
