Shorts: Ridge minor hockey alum taken in WHL draft

Brett Didyk, Brandon Armstrong played together on the RMMHA peewee A1 team two years ago.

Two Ridge Meadows Minor Hockey Association alumni were taken in Thursday’s Western Hockey League bantam draft.

Brett Didyk, a 5’11, 170-pound right-winger for the Burnaby Winter Club Bruins this past season, was taken in the fourth round, 83rd overall by the Medicine Hat Tigers.

Brandon Armstrong, a 6’3’’, 200-pound defenseman at Okanagan Hockey Academy, was taken in the fifth round, 92nd overall by the Moose Jaw Warriors.

Didyk and Armstrong played together on the RMMHA peewee A1 team two years ago. Didyk then left to join BWC, while Armstrong stayed one more season before leaving for OHA.

 

MRSS junior champs

John An won the boys’ singles and doubles competition at the Upper Fraser Valley junior badminton championships Monday in Aldergrove.

An teamed with Jason Choi in doubles. Choi also came second in mixed doubles with Christina Woo, while won girls doubles with Simran Johar. Johar came third in girls singles, behind Ivy Ocampo, who came second in girls doubles with Desnie Dela Cruz. Gavin Ham and Rebekah Escueta came third in mixed doubles.

From MRSS, 12 players qualified for the Fraser Valley championships.
