SRT Titans show character with comeback

After dismantling Argyle secondary 41-0 last week, the SRT Titans junior varsity football team followed up with a 38-27 league win at Robert Bateman secondary Wednesday.

The Titans entered half-time down 21-6.  Behind the leadership and experience of their key Grade 10s and some outstanding play from their Grade 9 quarterback Cody Hogarth, the Titans rallied in the second half.

The Titans defence shut down Bateman’s offence, led by Brock Pelwecki and Jevon Anutooshkin, who  had 12 tackles and a sack between them.  Kyle Halverson also had a sack and a forced fumble.

On offence, Hogarth started the comeback with a 62-yard punt return for a touchdown.Outstanding receiver Kyle Halverson reeled in a 52-yard touchdown pass from Hogarth later in the quarter.

With Bateman’s defence on its heels, SRT’s ground game took over.  Pelwecki ran the ball 20 times for 149 yards and caught a touchdown pass.

Anutooshkin added 72 yards on 13 carries of his own, including 1 rushing touchdown.

The coaching staff was impressed with the squad’s resilience, even after some key starters like Brayden Hamilton went down with injuries.

With their sights set on a playoff berth, the Titans will host Langley secondary on Wednesday afternoon, on the ‘Titan Turf at SRT.’  Kick off is at 3:30 p.m.
