Running back Tyrell Ogloff put on a clinic Wednesday afternoon at Samuel Robertson Technical Secondary School’s Rotary Field, as he ran for three touchdowns and more than 200 yards to lead the SRT Titans to a 48-28 win over the Pitt Meadows Marauders in junior varsity football action.

The win marks the third in a row for the Titans over their crosstown rivals, and their first of the 2012 regular season, improving to 1-1 after their opening week loss to Robert Bateman.

“This was a big win for us,” said Titans head coach Mark Ogloff. “We really needed a win to get our motors going.”

Coach Ogloff said his son and team captain Tyrell Ogloff, as well as running back Emerson Kot, were critical to the Titans success Wednesday.

Kot ran for two touchdowns, aided by key blocks from Tyrell Ogloff and the Titans offensive line.

“They both had a great game,” he said.

The loss of outside linebacker Jake Shelton in the first quarter hurt the Titans ability to defend against the sweep, a situation exploited by Pitt running back Dalton Hebblethwaite, who led the Marauders offence with more than 100 yards rushing and two touchdowns.

However, the Marauders struggled to hold on to ball, as they fumbled five times in the first half and found themselves down 22-6 in the second quarter as a result.

“If we had held on to the ball, it might be a different story,” said Pitt Meadows coach Kris Little. “But when you fumble five times you can’t expect to win.”

After a five-yard touchdown run from Hebblethwaite, the Marauders appeared to be back on track. However an attempted onside kick was recovered by the Titans, giving them strong field position. The ensuing drive resulted in Ogloff’s second touchdown of the game.

Pitt responded with a 10-play drive starting on their own 25-yard line to finish off the first half, ending with a 20-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Jake Schuster to wide receiver Matt Cameron.

With the score 30-20 heading into the second half, the Titans spent much of the third quarter eating up the clock with their first possession, marching from their own 20-yard line to the end zone in 12 plays.

Pitt took the ball on their own 20, and were making progress down field when their drive was interrupted by a Titans interception, ran back for a touchdown to make score 42-20.

The Marauders put together another long scoring drive on the ensuing possession, capped off with another touchdown reception by Cameron.

However, with time winding down, the Titans put the game out of reach thanks to a long return which set up Kot’s second touchdown of the game for the final score of 48-28.

Despite the lop-sided score, Little said that with the exception of a few broken plays, his defence did what was asked of them.

“We planned our defence around [Tyrell Ogloff], but he is one heck of a player,” Little said. “Give him all the credit in the world. He played extremely well.”

With the loss, the Marauders fall to 1-2 in league play this season heading into their bye week. Pitt returns home to face Mission on Oct. 17.

The Titans take on GW Graham at home on Oct. 10.
