Thunder win provincial championship

The Ridge Meadows Thunder under-16 girls softball team won the bantam C provincial gold medal over the weekend in Port Alberni.

The team went undefeated through the round-robin stage of the tournament defeating the Chilliwack Stealers 10-2, the Alberni Valley Blazers 3-0, the Parksville Rage 13-1 and the Cloverdale Kaos 9-0.

The Thunder got the number one seed as the top eight out of 16 teams moved on to the double knockout playoff round.

In Game one of the playoffs they defeated the Campbell River Crushers 9-1.

In game two, they beat Kamloops S.W.A.T. 8-2 to move onto the semi-final game and a rematch with the Stealers from Chilliwack.

They defeated Chilliwack 9-1 and moved on to the final and another rematch with the host Alberni Valley Blazers.

The Thunder scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning on their way to a 7-0 victory.

They outscored their opponents 68-7 over their eight games and really dominated the whole tournament.
