The Vistas Run is celebrating 20 years in Maple Ridge on May 28.

The annual event, with its panoramic views, draws walkers and runners from across the Lower Mainland who participate year after year in support of Ridge Meadows Hospice Society.

Registration is underway for one of Maple Ridge’s more popular runs, including a new team competition.

Runners, walkers and families are invited to participate in the Ridge Meadows Hospice Society’s 20th Annual Vistas Run and Walk on May 28 at Kanaka Creek Regional Park.

The 20th year sees a new team category and an invitation to local business, students and community clubs to create a team, raise pledges and experience this unique event.

A Zumba warm-up and the flavours of India are just some of the things that sets the Vistas Run apart from other runs.

The run also brings personal stories of how the Ridge Meadows Hospice Society has touched people in the community.

“We see familiar faces at the run of families who have benefited from our free support services, or been through the hospice” said Lindsey Willis, coordinator of Palliative Support Services for the Ridge Meadows Hospice Society.

“People who have been through loss want to do something to honor the memory of their loved one. I feel thankful an event like Vistas provides a way for people to share in memories together.”

Having raised upwards of $330,000 to date, the Vistas Run is a significant annual fundraiser for the hospice society, a registered charity that provides free support and care to individuals and their loved ones in Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows experiencing the end of life journey and bereavement.

The Vistas has three routes: a timed 10-km run; a timed five-km run/walk; and a four-km family walk.

Team members can find a route they are comfortable with while still being part of their team.

“Welcoming community to the Vistas Run is one of our main goals”, said Mark Vosper, executive director for the Ridge Meadows Hospice Society.

“With the incredible support we receive from local business, we created a way they can showcase their community spirit through a fun event in support of a great cause.”
