A couple of Maple Ridge Christian (MRCS) basketball players will be hitting the court this weekend, but rather than being joined by their classmates, they’ll be playing alongside a collection of top A Boys athletes from across the province.

The All-Star Saturday event, which features high school players from both public and private schools in B.C., will take place on April 20 at St. Thomas More Collegiate in Burnaby.

Maple Ridge players Caleb Arrington and Carson Barber will both be heading to the event as part of the A Boys team, who will kick off the All-Star Saturday games with their match against the AA Boys team at 1 p.m.

But before the first tip-off, there will be a couple of other fun basketball challenges to watch, including a three-point contest as well as a dunk contest.

MRCS athletic director MaryAnna Robbins explained that the school’s staff and students were all very excited that not one but two of their players were chosen for the all-star team.

“This shows the commitment that they both have to the game,” said Robbins. “We’re all very proud of all of their efforts.”

Robbins said that this is the first time the two Grade 12 players have made it onto the BC High School Boys Basketball Association’s all-star roster, which comes off the fourth-place finish they achieved at this year’s provincials.

Arrington was also given the Athlete of the Month Award by BC School Sports for his impressive performance in January.

“We might be a small school, but we have some great sports programs,” said Robbins.
