Maple Ridge, Pitt Meadows athletes medal at BC Games

Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows had numerous medallists at the Lhtako Quesnel 2024 BC Games, which were held from Feb. 22-25.

There were more than 800 athletes at the Winter Games – teens who qualified through regional competition, with 210 coaches also attending.

Bringing home gold were Badminton players were Zoe Liang and Muyao Lu of Maple Ridge in a team event, and Lu also won gold in a skills event. Liang took bronze in singles girls.

In artistic gymnastics Payton Coleman, Hayley Halstead and Olivia Rensen won silver medals in a team event for the Fraser Valley zone. Rensen also won gold in the women’s vault event, Halstead took silver on uneven bars, Elle Fenton took bronze in that event, and Niquita Fortich-Balabat won bronze on the vault.

In curling, Julie Andrews took bronze in an individual event.

In judo, Josia Ewing won bronze in the boys 66 kg event, and Evelina Khazhevskaia won bronze in the girls 48 kg class.

Now Maple Ridge is getting set to host the 2024 BC Summer Games from July 18-21, and the city is expecting some 2,800 athletes and close to 1,000 coaches and officials.
