New attraction
Tourism Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows have a new marketing coordinator, thanks to the B.C. Provincial Job Creation Partnership.
Andrew Maillot will help out with marketing efforts until March 31. One of the projects he’ll undertake at the Tourism Visitor Centre in Pitt Meadows is videotaping and photographing tourist spots throughout the area as a means of attracting visitors. Then he’ll put those images in his blog on the Tourism Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows website.
Emergency aid
Kirmac Collision, on Dewdney Trunk Road and 228th Street, has switched things up to make it speedier to get your dented vehicle repaired. Instead of booking an appointment for your bruised vehicle, motorists first contact their insurer, then drop into the shop and immediately pick up a replacement vehicle.
The shop then inspects the car, contacts the insurance company and starts repairs. Under the Instant Access program, Kirmac estimates one or two weeks of waiting can be eliminated. A news release compared the system to that used in emergency departments.
Mall for 203rd?
Another empty lot in Maple Ridge will be filled if an application to build a shopping centre clears its way through council.
Mussallem Realty and Rowan Industries want rezoning to allow a shopping centre on 2.65 hectares on the southwest corner of Lougheed Highway and 203rd Street.
Council had its first look Monday at the plan to build four buildings totalling about 118,400 sq. feet, which would be slightly smaller than Westgate Shopping Centre.
The Burger King restaurant that’s currently on site, would remain.
“It’s another piece of property that’s been vacant forever,” Mayor Ernie Daykin said later.
“Another positive sign that things are moving.”
