The Pitt Meadows Garden Club is holding their 20th annual plant sale.

In addition to plants, people will be able to purchase seedlings, vegetables and herbs, shrubs, small trees, flower baskets, cut flowers, annuals and perennials, and fresh baked goods.

There will also be a silent auction.

“We have about 40 items at the silent auction, all donated by local supporters and businesses. Anything from a hand made quilt, a $75 gift card from FreshCo, to Science World tickets and plant fertilizer, and many more interesting items,” said Ineke Boekhorst, one of two presidents of the club.

Last year around 300 people turned out for the sale. And, Boekhorst said, they did not run out of anything, as each club member contribute many plants for the sale.

Vegetable plants like tomatoes, beets and pees were the most popular.

The Pitt Meadows Garden Club was established in 2000 and meet at Pitt Meadows Heritage Church Hall on the third Monday of each month, unless it falls on a long weekend, in that case the meeting date is changed to a convenient date.

The club holds special events and hosts guest speakers who share their knowledge and expertise with members about landscaping, pruning, seedlings, perennials, annuals, and arboriculture – a wide area of the horticultural field.

Following each meeting refreshments are served while members socialize with each other.

All money raised will be going back to the garden club, specifically for speakers at the club’s monthly meetings, rent for the meeting space, and small garden tours over the summer months.

“We subsidize the cost for our members,” explained Boekhorst, noting they are always looking for new members.

“All our members enjoy getting together once per month, to discuss how their gardens are doing, exchanging garden tips, meeting interesting people with same interest, have a coffee and some treats together with all our Garden Club friends.” said Boekhorst. “But most of all learn from our monthly speakers, about many different topics: bees, pollinator gardens, pruning, roses, greenhouse gardening and many other topics.”

The Pitt Meadows Garden Club Annual Plant Sale takes place from 10-2 p.m. on Saturday, May 11, at Pitt Meadows Community Church Hall, at the corner of Harris Road and Ford Road in Pitt Meadows.
