Garibaldi Secondary School wants to celebrate the arrival of warm spring weather with not just one but two concerts next week.

The Garibaldi Secondary Music students’ series, known as the Sunny Day Concerts, takes place on May 7 and 8, with all of the proceeds going toward supporting the school’s music program.

Up first will be the outdoor concert on Tuesday, May 7, which will include performances by all of the different student groups, explained GSS music teacher Rebekah Bell.

This includes the Elementary Band, Grade 8 Band, Grade 9 Jr. Band, Grade 10 Band, Sr. Band, Jr. Jazz Band, and Sr. Jazz Band.

“We’ll also be ending the show with a massed band number of Grades 8 to 12,” said Bell.

The outdoor concert will take place behind the school’s gym, with people encouraged to bring their own chairs or blankets to sit on.

“If the weather doesn’t cooperate, we will be in the gym instead,” said Bell.

Attendees can also look forward to a selection of food and beverages for sale on-site.

The following day will be the indoor gym concert, which Bell said will give people a chance to check out the recently renovated theatre stage.

Performances will include the Sr. Concert Band, Sr. Jazz Band, Vocal Jazz, and various small ensembles and solos.

“This concert also highlights some of our senior performers, who’ve been in provincials and nationals, in feature pieces,” said Bell.
