Help portraits to help the needy

Free portrait sessions for those who may not otherwise have the opportunity to have a professional photo

Organizers of Ridge Meadows Help Portrait are hoping to raise enough money to hand out family portraits again this Christmas for those less fortunate.

The fifth annual Help Portrait event takes place on Dec. 5 from 1-8 p.m. at Golden Ears United Church, 22165 Dewdney Trunk Road.

Photographers, editors, hair stylists and makeup artists come together for an afternoon of free portrait sessions for those who may not otherwise have the opportunity to have a professional photograph taken.

In addition to the portrait session, every family leaves with a free framed family portrait.

Ridge Meadows Help Portrait is still in need of make up artists and hair stylists to help out.

Founded in 2009 by American photographer Jeremy Cowart, Help Portrait is a non-profit organization that has grown to a community of photographers across the globe who will be using their visual skills to give back to the community they live in.

To date, 282,295 portraits have been given by 20,371 photographers and 32,299 volunteers at 2,128 locations in 62 countries around the world.
