Jenna Pretzer reads to Olivia Marr in Madame Nicole Wong's Kindergarten French Immersion class at Eric Langton elementary Friday morning. Grade 11 students of Maple Ridge secondary teacher Jacquie Burns wrote and created their own children's books in French, then read from them as part of a project to reinforce the importance of language learning.

Emmanuel Barrios, who read to Bella Ibarra, created his story, "Pour quoi les amis son t'il important" (Why friends are important), on a tablet.

"It's a great opportunity for the older students to put their hard work on display," Burns said.
