Savannah Hutton wants to add some magic to this holiday season by giving a little bit extra to help those in need in the community.
The Thomas Haney secondary student has organized a raffle to benefit the Salvation Army Ridge Meadows Ministries.
Hutton spent more than 80 hours organizing the draw and was able to get 20 businesses across the Lower Mainland to participate. She has assembled seven gift baskets to be raffled off worth a combined total of $4,000.
Items in the baskets include four passes to the Capilano Suspension Bridge, a pair of Vancouver Canucks tickets, an autographed Canucks hockey puck, five Delta Force Paintball vouchers, two unlimited monthly passes to Epic Yoga, TRAPPED Real Life Room Escape passes, The Rock Wall Climbing Gym passes, a remote control truck, a $50 gift card to Winners, 15 Domino’s Pizza vouchers, a Boston Pizza voucher, a Panago Pizza voucher, Sticky’s Candy gift cards, Cineplex movie passes, a free Dairy Queen cake, a Kanaka Creek Coffee gift card, two vouchers from Photo Express for 100 free prints, Subway gift cards, dinner for four at Chipotle Mexican Grill, a gift card for Browns Social House, a Keg Steakhouse gift certificate and two baskets donated by JD Gifts.
“I wanted to do this because there is a lot of negativity going on right now and I wanted to do something positive to bring people together,” said the Grade 11 leadership student about world news in general and some personal health issues she is also going through.
“I actually wasn’t expecting to get that many (businesses involved). My goal was to get ten and I ended up getting over 20. I went around and emailed as many stores that I could think of,” she said.
Last winter she raised more than $200 for the Salvation Army Ridge Meadows Ministries selling compost bin liners that she made herself.
This year her goal is to raise $1,500.
“Originally our goal was $1,000, but we’ve already past that,” said Hutton who has raised $1,300 so far.
Hutton will spend until Dec. 1 selling tickets for the raffle she has called Take A Chance To Give Magic during her lunch hour at Thomas Haney.
Tickets are $5 for one, $10 for three or $15 for five.
Tickets can also be bought by emailing Hutton at chancetogivemagic@outlook.com.
The deadline is Dec. 1 by noon.
