Maple Ridge residents are encouraged to host fundraisers for the Maple Ridge Community Chest as part of Thanksgiving this year.
Community Chest Week, Oct. 10-17, is a partnership between the Maple Ridge Community
Foundation and the Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows Katzie Community Network.
Through referrals by agencies connected with the Community Chest, funds are
provided as immediate, one-time assistance to deal with a setback, to keep the
individual and family from falling into poverty.
“What better time of year to think about those in our community who need a boost,
than when we are giving thanks for our own blessings?” asks Andy Cleven, director
with the Maple Ridge Community Foundation.
“The Community Chest is truly a
neighbours helping neighbours program. One story that I feel speaks volumes is that of
a single mother and her two boys. The boys broke the lock on their sliding door, and
their mother was unable to repair it on her own. The boys were frightened of the door
not being locked at night, and were losing a lot of sleep over this. A counsellor at school
learned of this situation and referred them to the Community Chest so they could have
this repair made at their home. This one-time donation made the world of difference to
this hardworking mother and her young boys. This family could have been any of our
neighbours.”
Be it a bake sale or bottle collection, percentage of business sales or a special event,
fundraisers of all types are welcome and encouraged.
Fundraiser organizers are asked to register events by contacting marketing@mrcf.ca
or 604-466-3312, so they can receive extra promotional support of their event.
