The City of Pitt Meadows is opening elements of its new Harris Road Park playground on Thursday.

The parks department is inviting residents to stop by the park in coming days, with a fair weather forecast, and check out new structures and equipment.

The city thanked parents for their input into the project, which they credit with new designs that take into account accessibility. Most notably, the city has ordered a large play structure known as The Boat, which was chosen for its accessible elements, and it will be installed in a second phase in the coming months. There will also be a swing that allows easy transfer from a wheelchair, and saucer chair that has high back supports. There are features that also make the new playground equipment accessible and inclusive.

A tot activity area has been designed for children aged 2-5, with ground-level discovery stations.

Engagement with playground users and their parents was done by summer program staff through an on-site survey over a two week period to find out what type of play features were most important to them. A 2022 advisory committee will be formed to recommend priority projects for the future.
