Two teens from Pitt Meadows were selected to participate in this years Camp Ignite.
Camp Ignite is a firefighting mentorship program for girls 16-18 years old.
Brooke Dyke, who was sponsored by the Maple Ridge Fire and Rescue, wanted to experience firefighting as a career option but also because she is looking for a career where she helps people.
Emma Larsen, was sponsored by Pitt Meadows Fire and Rescue, has confirmed her desire to become a firefighter.
During the week the girls learn a variety of tasks that include how to put on gear, using the jaws of life and hose-handling.
Mary Foster, Maple Ridge firefighter and camp director, says the camp is a mentorship program that shows girls they can do anything.
The camp ran from Aug. 9-12 at fire stations throughout the Lower Mainland.
