Pitt Meadows Mayor Don MacLean packs an emergency preparedness kit during the Grab `N Go Challenge

Maple Ridge mayor Ernie Daykin, Pitt Meadows mayor Don MacLean and School District No. 42 chair Ken Clarkson are now prepared for the big earthquake.

The trio put their knowledge to test on Wednesday as part of ShakeOut B.C. by packing "Grab ‘N Go Kit” full of supplies to use when disaster strikes.

RCMP Insp. Darren Lench, Ridge Meadows Hospital manager of volunteer services Debbie Kennedy and B.C. Ambulance Service supervisor William (Joe) Cramer were judges.

In the event of an earthquake or other emergencies, residents of Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows may be need to look after themselves and their families for 72 hours as emergency responders restore essential services.

Both municipalities encouraged residents to have disaster and emergency supplies in their home with essential items for their families.

Clarkson won the challenge by including a tent in his kit as well as a bicycle helmet to protect him from falling debris.

More than 400,000 across the province practices earthquake drills on Tuesday.
