Miranda Tymoschuk’s dream of travelling to Ghana, Africa will come true.

Last weekend, the Grade 11 Thomas Haney secondary student raised all the money she will need for her trip, plus a bit extra.

Tymoschuk raised $2,103 at her bake sale on Saturday at Haney Place Mall. One lady alone donated $500 towards Tymoschuk’s trip to help with the Free the Children program.

The lady handed Tymoschuk an envelope, wished her good luck and walked away.

“I thanked her, but I was busy helping someone get their cookies,” said Tymoschuk, who left the envelope unopened until she had finished with her customer.

“When I opened the envelope, I thought I saw $20 inside but it was $100 and there was five of them,” said Tymoschuk.

“My mom and I were almost crying. We tried to find her. We wanted to thank her so much. but, she had just left.”

Big Feast Bistro put on a french toast breakfast that raised more money.

And after an interview with the radio station QMFM even more donations poured in.

“So, everything is covered now and I don’t have to worry about anything like the Visa, the malaria pills, it’s all covered,” said Tymoschuk.

Tymoschuk, who had planned to be doing more fundraising over the holidays, is shocked at the generosity of people and is planning to pay it forward.

“My hope is sometime in the near future that I’ll use some of the extra money that I have and then do additional fundraising to help support other people who would like to go on a life-changing trip like this.”

Saying thanks
