Seniors in Maple Ridge celebrated Christmas this year with a tea, carol singing, and a visit from Santa.
More than 150 seniors in the community gathered at the Maple Ridge Public Library for the Seniors Christmas Tea Party put on by the Maple Ridge, Pitt Meadows, Katzie, Seniors Network.
“Our biggest audience yet,” said Heather Treleaven, coordinator with the seniors network, who noted the event has always been very popular.
Rosemary Murray from the library, with help from Kathie Rodway from the seniors network, organized the tea party at the beginning of December.
The Silvertones Choir led the Christmas carol singing and original stories were read by a local writer’s group about special Christmas memories.

Local environmentalist and author Jack Emberly, who heads the writer’s group at Greystone Manor, will be leading a free workshop for seniors called We Can Write at the library from 1-2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 7.
“We encourage all older adults to attend and learn how to record their special memories,” said Treleaven.
