Osprey Village has its first artist-in-residence.
A graduate of the Textile Arts Program at Capilano University, Rebecca Fisher has exhibited her work at galleries and shows across the Lower Mainland and the USA and has taught many workshops in textile arts.
Since 2008, Fisher has been an entrepreneur creating unique textile designs under the label of Diva’s Niche.
Her current work explores natural dyes and natural imagery, while creating accessories, garments and textiles for the home. The Osprey storefront residency offers Fisher an opportunity to reach the next step in her artistic practice and have a physical storefront to display her work.
She will occasionally display the work of other artists and is excited to have the opportunity of connecting with the community through her art.
Fisher feels that art is all around us. The natural world offers unlimited opportunities for creative inspiration and it only takes a short walk for her to connect with her muse. Fisher said generally in her personal works, intent is not planned in advance but is revealed in the process of the making.
For her proposed reading yurt project, she would like to think that her intent is connectivity.
“Connecting multi-generational groups and exposing them to traditional techniques and natural dyes, forges a greater connectivity with each other and the planet and brings into play a sense of community that is being lost in our fast-paced consumerist world,” says Fisher.
It is Fisher’s hope that by sharing the skills, the community will continue to thrive and others will enjoy the meditative time spent in the creative process. Fisher’s residency officially began in July and end in February 2016.
