Two dancers from Maple Ridge helped team Canada win big at the World Dance Championships in Germany last month.
Maple Ridge secondary student Kiana Serr competed in two ballet group categories and won gold for both events and a silver medal in jazz.
Serr, 16, is student at the Tricity Dance Centre, which sent seven dancers to the competition, held in Frankfurt from Oct. 4-7.
Darby Steeves was also a member of the adult formation jazz team that earned second place on the podium and a silver medal.
Steeves, 16, began dancing at age three, and has been a student at Peggy Peat's School of Dance for the past 13 years.
When Steeves isn't training for competitions or instructing classes at the local dance school, she can be found in costume as the mascot for Dinotown in Pitt Meadows, Dusty, and at events at her high school, Thomas Haney secondary, where she plays Thor.
Hosted by the International Dance Organization, the championships drew 1,400 dancers from 23 countries.
Canada won a total of 16 gold medals at the competition, followed by Poland and Slovenia with eight golds each.
The Canadian team was led by choreographers Danielle Gardner of So You Think You Can Dance Canada and Joshua Beamish, artistic director of MOVE: The Company.
