A cast of 25 talented young performers from Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows will bring a fairy tale to life this weekend.

The Showstoppers Academy of Performing Arts crew, aged 12 to 27, will sing and dance their way through Beauty and the Beast.

“Our production is double-cast, which means I have to ensure each cast member knows what dance moves they do for their chorus part and their main part,” said choreographer and director Ashleigh McAuley.

Beauty and the Beast is a big show with lots of scene changes and challenging props.

“We’re having a blast in rehearsals working with 34 pewter mugs for the musical number ‘Gaston’, which takes place in a tavern,” says McAuley.

During the song, performers clink mugs against each other while dancing and singing.

“We had to find creative ways to not hit each others fingers,” says McAuley with a laugh.
