A taste of Celtic music in Maple Ridge’s Listening Lounge

Schryer, Dobres and Hillhouse Trio playing on Friday

Celtic music is on the menu at the Listening Lounge, coming up at The Act.

The Schryer, Dobres and Hillhouse Trio are playing on Friday, April 5 at 8 p.m. in the Studio Theatre as part of the series.

The Listening Lounge Series is a casual, cabaret-style experience that brings a variety of musical genres. Patrons can gather around a table to meet new people or connect with old friends, enjoy a shared plate of nibbles and your favorite beverage to start the weekend off right.

The fiddle and guitar duo of Pierre Schryer and Adam Dobres will be joined by guitar maestro Andy Hillhouse.

Billed “a veritable Canadian Celtic supergroup,” Schryer, Dobres, and Hillhouse cover an array of music, including traditional and contemporary tunes in various styles from far-reaching places including Canada, Ireland, Algeria, Brazil, Quebec, and more, all with warmth and humour.

Schryer is one of Canada’s leading traditional fiddlers, holding titles and awards including Canadian Open Fiddle Champion, Grand Masters Champion, Violoneux Championnat, and North American Irish Fiddle Champion.

Dobres is a highly accomplished guitarist with a natural ability to embody any style of music from Bluegrass to Celtic, Gypsy to Rock, and more. Also adept on electric guitar, Sitar, Turkish Lira and African Kora, he has played and toured with such diverse artists as Daniel Lapp, Toni Childs, and Blue Rodeo.

One of Canada’s finest Celtic guitarists in the fields of folk and traditional music, Hillhouse had earlier formed his own group, the popular Canadian Celtic funk band, Mad Pudding, was a former member of JUNO-nominated vocal collective, Musica Intima, and played with The McDade’s on their JUNO and two-time Canadian Folk Music Award winning album.

Together these three artists represent diverse and successful music careers laden with awards and nominations including JUNO Awards, Canadian Folk Music Awards, Western Canadian Music Awards, and Grammy Awards.

They’ve received great reviews from the likes of BBC Scotland and Irish Music Magazine.
