Anyone wanting to practice their best axel jump or even just go for a leisurely stroll on the ice can do so this holiday season by attending one of the local skating opportunities in Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows.

First up will be the Winter Wonderland event at Pitt Meadows Arena (11435 Bonson Rd.), which takes place on Dec. 22 and 23.

This all-ages event invites the entire family to come down to the arena and marvel at the collection of holiday decorations while going for a skate.

Capturing memories of the event will be easy at the selfie station set up beside the rink, and Santa might even make an appearance on skates as well.

Attending the Winter Wonderland costs $2 per person, with skate and helmet rentals available for an additional $3.95 and $2.65, respectively.

On both the Friday and Saturday, the family skating will be available from 2 to 3:30 p.m., 4 to 5:30 p.m., 6 to 7 p.m., and 8 to 9:30 p.m.

In Maple Ridge, skating enthusiasts can head on down to Planet Ice (23588 105 Ave.) on Dec. 26 to check out the Boxing Day event from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.

Attendees will be able to do so much more than just skate, with face painting, hot chocolate, snacks, and a gift card draw also being offered at the event.

The Boxing Day skating event is admission by donation, with all of the proceeds being split amongst Maple Ridge Kid Sport and the BC Cancer Society.

Enhance Sport and Wellness is putting on the event and will be giving the winner of the gift card draw a $50 gift card to The Hockey Shop.

Skates are available to rent for $4 per pair, with helmet rentals costing $2.75 each.

Attendees are encouraged to wear Rustlers, Barracudas, or Flames jerseys to show support for the local hockey teams.
