A new single is being released by Maple Ridge musician Cam Blake.

Red Tape is the second single from his upcoming sophomore album called Satisfaction of Sameness. The song, said Blake, represents the helplessness of leaving the responsibility for an impending global catastrophe in the hands of the rich and powerful.

At the same time, the song addresses the hurdles at an individual level that make meaningful change so difficult; and whether we should simply succumb to the pressures of living a mundane life,” added the song writer, noting the song combines electronic elements with indie and alternative rock drives.

Satisfaction of Sameness, added Blake, takes place within an infinitely repeating day.

“Following the frustrating and convoluted internal dialogue people face on a daily basis, like constantly looking at their phones all day for some kind of redemption or being bombarded and distracted with media and political dribble, or being subjected to stupid trends and people you can’t help but compare yourself to. Hating your job. Having a relationship that isn’t working out the way you want it to…you fall asleep, everything washes away and you start it all over again,” he explained.

Blake started writing music at the age of eight and has spend most of his life performing and producing his original music. He notes, on his website, that he takes inspiration from a wide array of genres including indie and alternative rock, electronic, and hyperpop.

His debut indie rock album, which he co-produced with Sam Cutri of Perth, Australia, called Bad Vacation, was released on Jan. 15, 2021. Three singles from the album: Losing My Mind; Conversation #3; and Self Worth, were featured on commercial radio in Canada and campus radio in the United States.

Blake has toured the country with his music, playing alongside bands like The Sheepdogs, 54 40, The Zolas, and more.

His new single comes on the heels of a sold-out show at the Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver, with Vancouver-based band Peach Pit.

Gravity, Blake’s first single from his new album, was released in October, 2023.

Red Tape is set to drop on Friday, Jan. 26.
