Being a butcher is far more than just cutting up some meat, and this Saturday people will be able to see some of the province’s top butchers hard at work at the inaugural B.C.’s Best Butcher Competition at Hopcott Farms.
Taryn Barker, owner of The Little Butcher in Port Moody, was one of the people who helped organize the event, which she said she hopes will be the first of many.
“Myself and a dedicated team of individuals from the industry have been working our butts off for the last year to organize this event,” said Barker.

The competition will kick off at 9:45 a.m. on Saturday, with 18 butchers from all over the province, including multiple professionals from Pitt Meadows, putting their skills to the test in 45-minute rounds.
Judging will commence after each of the three preliminary rounds, with the top three competitors headed to the finals at 4 p.m.
The winner will then be announced at 5 p.m., with a few hours of networking for all of the competitors and spectators afterward.
Anyone interested in attending the event can stop by the event venue at Hopcott Farms, located at 13672 Reichenbach Rd., on Saturday, May 4.
