In honour of the service and sacrifices made by both past and present veterans, TransLink is offering free transit services, including HandyDART, on Remembrance Day.

In fact, it goes beyond that. All veterans, active members of the Canadian Armed Forces, police and fire personnel, Canadian Coast Guard members, officers from the Department of Fisheries and Oceans, and BC Ambulance Service personnel can present their badge, military ID, Veteran’s Service Card, or appear in uniform to receive free transit on Nov. 11.

Veterans and other eligible riders can enjoy free bus rides all day without the need to tap their Compass Cards, plus they can access SkyTrain and SeaBus services at no cost from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. During these hours, one accessible fare gate will remain open at all stations.

West Coast Express will not be operating.

All services will return to their regular Sunday schedules on Nov. 12.

Oil changes offered

Among other free services being offered to local veterans, once again Mobil 1 Lube Express + Tires in Walnut Grove has stepped up.

This company is providing free oil changes for veterans, as well as military members, both Saturday, Nov. 11, saying no appointment is needed.

Recipients must present valid Canadian veteran or military identification issued by the government, or have a veteran licence plate.

“Mobil 1 Lube Express Walnut Grove is giving back this Remembrance Day to those who make sacrifices for us all,” the company posted on their Facebook page.

The lube shop is located at #101-20540 88th Ave.

Free hot beverages served

And in keeping with tradition, Tim Hortons restaurant owners across Canada – including here in Langley – will offer free hot beverages to veterans and Canadian Armed Forces members on Nov. 11, in recognition of Remembrance Day.

This Saturday, any veterans or Canadian Armed Forces members either in uniform or showing appropriate identification will be eligible to receive a free hot beverage of their choice, in any size.

It’s a way, Tim Hortons staff said, to show a small token of gratitude to veterans and forces members for their service and all that has been sacrificed for Canada.
