Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows schools get third snow day in a row

All local schools except for Meadowridge School are closed due to poor weather

Most Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows students have an extra long weekend ahead of them thanks to all local schools remaining closed for the third snow day in a row.

The Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows School District 42 cited the freezing rain and poor sidewalk conditions as the reason for the closure on Friday.

Every SD42 school, including all Riverside Centre programs, continuing education, and Ridge Meadows College, are closed, along with the Maple Ridge Christian private school.

However, Meadowridge School has re-opened on Friday, with the school cautioning its students and parents to be slow and safe when coming to the school today.

Most local businesses and services have also re-opened, including Pitt Meadows city hall, South Bonson Community Centre, both the Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows libraries, and more.

A freezing rain warning from Environment Canada remains in effect for both Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows, with rain forecasted to continue all day and into Saturday. Although the daily highs are projected to remain above freezing for the foreseeable future, rain will also occur pretty consistently for the next week.
