Rhythms of country-rock will be heard along Maple Ridge’s waterfront on Monday night.

The Olson Bros. Band will be kicking off the first night of the Music on The Wharf series on Monday evening at the Port Haney Wharf in Maple Ridge at 7:30 p.m.

The Olson Bros., from Olympia, Wash. will play for their first Canadian audience.

Isaac and Luke Olson are the two brothers who sing and write for The Olson Bros.

Isaac said the band’s progression in the music industry has been huge.

“I love the process of how we started, playing in small bars five years ago when no one came, and now people come out just to see us.”

Luke said he and Isaac were close growing up and began their music journey together.

“Me and my brother started playing guitar together right after high school in the summer, just having fun and jamming out. We did everything together growing up — playing sports, singing in choir.”

After high school, the two went to different colleges, but continued playing guitar and writing songs together in the summer.

“We learned country songs because we liked the stories that they told and the meanings behind the songs,” added Luke.

The brothers broke into the country music scene with their band members in 2013, when they won the Lake Fair Battle of the Bands.

The Olson Bros. also won a national country songwriting contest with their song Sunrise, and spent time in Nashville with mentors from the country music industry.

On Monday night, the audience can expect energetic and upbeat original country tunes along with a mix of popular cover songs, including AC/DC and Guns N’ Roses.

The brothers are excited for their first concert outside of their home country.

“I love going to different places, travelling around and seeing reactions to the songs we’ve written. They love the songs and it has an effect on their lives,” said Isaac.

“It’s really exciting to play a show in another country. There’s a lot of good country that comes from Canada,” added Luke.

Some of the duo’s favorite artists include popular country performers like Zac Brown Band, Jason Aldean and Rascal Flatts.

Music on The Wharf is a concert series hosted every summer overlooking the Fraser River. The concerts are by donation, and happen twice in July and twice in August.

Upcoming concerts: July 30, Knudson and Connaughton; Aug. 13, Flint and Feather; Aug. 27, The Argyle Embargo.

No seating is offered at the Port Haney Wharf, so bring a lawn chair.
