The City of Maple Ridge has revealed its final designs for the new playground equipment at Maple Ridge Park.

The playground will be centered around a 30-foot tree house and slide structure. Kids will be able to climb to the top through a series of pods and bridges, and then take a curved tunnel slide down.

There was a round of public engagement in the summer, with some 800 surveys completed, and the feedback was used to select new play features. They include in-ground trampolines, a side-by-side zipline, as well as classics like swings and seesaws. There are a variety of new accessible playground features. A new sand and water creative play area has been included.

Construction is scheduled to start in the spring of 2024.

Some of the features from the existing playground will be kept, including the main play structure, climbing boulder and large multi-bay swing set.

There were a range of comments on the city social media page, including some concerns that the play area was not inclusive enough, and needed more accessible equipment.

The city’s final concept lists a number of features as specifically accessible, including a seesaw, springer, spinner, slide, sand digger, and swing seat.

There were also many positive comments, such as: “Tree house, ziplines, and ingrown trampolines!!kids are going to lose their minds,” by Ricky Netto.

“My daughter is very excited about this and was very happy to take part in the survey and actually have a say in things,” added Erin Searle.

Maple Ridge Park is one of the oldest municipal parks in the area, and the oldest park in the city. It is located along the South Alouette River at the corner of 232 Street and Fern Crescent.
