The province is putting an emphasis on emergency preparedness, with the City of Pitt Meadows receiving more than $28,000 for its Emergency Operations Centre.

This latest round of funding comes less than two weeks after the city experienced an apartment fire that forced dozens of people out of their homes, with members of the city’s Emergency Support Services team helping to shelter and feed the displaced individuals.

Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows MLA Lisa Beare said that it is of the utmost importance that the city can respond as quickly as possible in the event of an emergency.

“This funding will help make sure that Pitt Meadows has up-to-date equipment and training should we need to act quickly this summer, or otherwise,” said Beare.

The $28,624.57 distributed to Pitt Meadows’ EOC is part of a larger $2.7 million round of funding from the province’s Community Emergency Preparedness Fund.

The City of Pitt Meadows will use the money to invest in more training and supplies, and host a tabletop exercise.
