Those on agriculturally zoned land within Pitt Meadows can apply for a burn permit until May 31.

Property owners or those living on agricultural land (with written permission of the owner) must have a licence to burn agricultural plant/vegetative waste.

There are two burning seasons – March 1 to May 31 and Sept. 1 to Nov. 30.

Open burning now requires both a City burning permit and open burning approval through Metro Vancouver. People must apply for the city permit, which can now be done online, as well as register for open burning approval through Metro Vancouver.

Each city permit costs $50 and is valid for five consecutive days. The ability to burn depends on Metro Vancouver’s ventilation index. Those who burn without Metro Vancouver permission will be fined.

Open wood burning is not permitted in urban areas in Pitt Meadows, according to Burning Regulation Bylaw No.2688. This includes outdoor fireplaces and cooking pits. Propane and natural gas fires and barbeques are permitted.

The city has more details on its website.
