Senior citizens in need of help with federal government services in Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows will find a pop-up service clinic, hosted by the office of MP Marc Dalton.

The clinic will offer help with passport renewals or applications, document certification, and will even address scams that seniors should be careful to avoid.

This drop-in clinic will be held on Jan. 31 from 9:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. at the Pitt Meadows Seniors Activities Centre, which is located at 19065 119B Ave.

Some of the issues people may require assistance with include:

• Canada Pension Plan (CPP)

• Canada Revenue Agency (CRA)

• Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS)

• Old Age Security (OAS)

• Employment Insurance (EI)

• Service Canada

• Citizenship and immigration

Constituency assistant Sean Mark Gillespie said the clinics can attract 40-50 people, many who need help with passports.

Others want document certification – a service where personal documents are photocopied, with certification that they are authentic. He said some documents become too old and worn to handle.

“Seniors appreciate us making the effort to come to them,” he said, adding that the pop-up service clinics have been held regularly at seniors centres in Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows since last year’s senior’s week in June.
