After three years of dedication to the Maple Ridge Probus Club, president Sam Lewindon has let another take the reins, but not before being presented with an award from the local seniors group.

At the annual general meeting, members of the Maple Ridge Probus Club voted in a new management committee, with Simon Modera being named the new president and Lewindon transitioning into the past president role.

Modera explained that many members of the local Probus Club viewed Lewindon as a magician and wanted to recognize the amount of work he did during his time as the club’s president.

“Sam grew the fledgling club during COVID and brought us firmly into the 2020s with virtual meetings and much, much more,” said Modera.

“Sam held several roles concurrently, many for all three years; president, Zoom host, newsletter editor, coffee morning coordinator, wine SIG [special interest group] leader, and computer SIG leader. Sam participated in at least five other SIGs and is, frankly, the glue that keeps this great club together. All this while participating in three other clubs.”

To honour this dedication, the Maple Ridge Probus Club presented Lewindon with a Canadian Achiever award.

Modera will now be leading the local Probus Club as it strives to continue offering retired and semi-retired people the opportunity to socialize and have fun experiences with other like-minded individuals in the Maple Ridge area.

“Thank you Sam and thank you all for what looks to be an interesting year ahead,” said Modera.

The Maple Ridge Probus Club hosts general meetings on the third Thursday of every month, with interested individuals encouraged to contact media liaison Dick Drew at 604-467-1590 in order to attend.
