Temperatures are heating up in Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows, which means that all of the snow that was dumped on the cities within the past few days will begin to melt away and could potentially cause some minor flooding on many local roads.

To help avoid this, city crews are working hard to help clear catch basins so that the water can properly drain, especially ahead of the heavy rain that is forecasted to come to the area for the next few days.

The City of Pitt Meadows encouraged residents to be on the watch for any blocked catch basins and report these issues using the non-emergency service available at www.pittmeadows.ca/city-services.

Pitt Meadows Mayor Nicole MacDonald also commended the hard work of the city’s operations team who have been busy removing snow, salting roads, and maintaining catch basins.

“A small city like Pitt Meadows requires our staff to wear many hats and adapt during inclement or unique circumstances,” said MacDonald.

“I am incredibly proud of our small, dedicated, and mighty Pitt Meadows team as they worked through the elements and faced unprecedented staffing shortages due to several unforeseen circumstances.”

The City of Maple Ridge also warned its residents to report any large volumes of gathering water on the street to the operations centre by calling 604-463-9581.

“As the snow melts there will be slushy conditions until the snow fully melts. If you have a storm basin near your property please help out by clearing away any snow and debris to help prevent localized flooding,” said the city.

According to Environment Canada, the daily highs for Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows will hover around +8 for the next several days, with frequent showers through to next weekend.
