VIDEO: Pitt Meadows apartment fire sends 3 people to the hospital

The blaze broke out at Ford Road Housing Co-op on Saturday morning

Flames tore through a Pitt Meadows apartment unit early Saturday morning, sending three people to hospital.

According to Pitt Meadows fire chief Stephan Drolet, the fire broke out at the Ford Road Housing Co-op at approximately 3:30 a.m., with flames clearly visible through the unit’s window when the initial firefighter crews responded.

Both Pitt Meadows and Maple Ridge firefighters battled the blaze and were able to limit the damage to only two units.

“All residents were evacuated and Emergency Support Service has been deployed along with City of Pitt Meadows employees to assist them,” said Chief Drolet.

“Three residents were injured and transported to local hospital.”

He explained that the cause of the fire is still under investigation, but road access to the area has since been re-opened to the public.

The City of Pitt Meadows announced that an ESS reception centre for those impacted by the fire has been set up at the Pitt Meadows Recreation Centre, located at 12027 Harris Rd.
