Water Polo Canada has announced its final rosters for the upcoming 2024 PanAm Aquatics U19 Men’s and Women’s Championships, and a Maple Ridge player is among those chosen.

Mackenzy Clark will be on the U19 women’s national team when the international competition is held next week, May 21-26 in San Salvador, El Salvador.

She was one of 28 athletes announced to represent the country. Clark was a graduate of Samuel Robertson Technical, and is a freshman with San Jose State University water polo, in California, where she studies criminology. A former competitive swimmer, she trained with Fraser Valley Water Polo in Surrey, and was on the coaching staff.

The 2024 PanAm Aquatics U19 Men’s and Women’s Championships are the qualifying events for the 2025 World Aquatics Junior World Championships for men and women, to be held in Croatia and Thailand respectively.

Held every two years, the PanAm Aquatics Water Polo U19 Championships will showcase athletes who are 19 years old and younger (i.e. born in 2005 or later). A maximum of 16 teams per gender, representing the five zones of the Americas, will be in action.

The Canadian women will start against Brazil on May 21, then in the following days will take on Mexico, Argentina, Team USA and Colombia.
