A total of 8 Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows Pride teams won medals

Ridge Meadows softball teams returned home last weekend from all corners of Metro Vancouver, with one team even going international, and they’re sporting medals after their stellar performances at the various tournaments.

Ridge Meadows Minor Softball Association (RMMSA) communications manager Misa Van Der May explained that a total of eight local teams brought back medals last weekend.

“We are so proud of our Pride teams,” said Van Der May. “We have some amazing coaches and clinicians in our association and the athletes have worked so hard in the off-season.”

“Most practiced two to three times a week, did team fitness workouts with trainers, worked with sprinting coaches, and went to RMMSA hitting, catching, pitching, and fielding clinics.”

Ridge Meadows teams dominated the U15B tournament hosted by the Fleetwood Fastpitch Association, with the Pride 09B team getting gold and the Pride 2010B team getting silver.

They weren’t the only local teams to get medals in Surrey either, with the Pride 06B team finishing in the top spot at the Surrey Storm U19B tournament.

Over on the North Shore, the Pride 2013 team fought their way to a gold medal, and the Pride 2011A team took bronze in Delta.

There were also some home turf victories as well, with the Pride 2011B team getting silver and the Pride 07B team getting gold in the RMMSA Pride Spring Tournament.

But by far the longest-distance victory from last weekend went to the Pride 09A team, who travelled down south of the border for a national qualifier tournament in Federal Way, Washington, where they won gold and brought back rings in addition to their medals.

“It’s wonderful to see all their hard work is paying off and it’s a great way to start their seasons,” said Van Der May.
