The Ridge Meadows Flames have had a hot start to the Stonehouse Cup finals, winning the first game of the series on Monday night.
It took a while for the Flames to find the back of the net, allowing the Richmond Sockeyes to open up the scoring with only a few seconds left in the first period.
The Flames then responded in the second period, scoring two unanswered goals thanks to forwards Theo Kochan and Josh Bettesworth.
Scoring was kept to a minimum again in the third period, with the Sockeyes notching the only point to be had and tying the game at two goals each.
Heading into overtime, the Flames didn’t take long to put the match to an end, with forward Jack Foster scoring the game-winning goal only three minutes after the puck drop.

Foster was awarded the first star of the game for his overtime goal, as well as the assist in the Kochan goal.
The second star went to Sockeyes’ Teo Lin, with the Flames’ own Josh Bettesworth earning the third star.
Goaltending was impressive on both ends of the ice, with Matthew Candusso in net for the Flames, stopping 20 of the 22 shots he faced throughout the night.
The Flames absolutely bombarded Sockeyes goaltender Noah Stenvig, putting 38 shots on net, with Stenvig managing to stop all but three of them.
The Stonehouse Cup finals will continue on Thursday, with the Flames once again playing at Minoru Arena before coming home to Planet Ice in Maple Ridge for game three on Saturday, March 23.
