Star Maple Ridge hockey players headed to National Women’s U18 Championship

Aurora Kahlert and London McDavid start national tournament on Nov. 5

A couple of rising hockey stars in Maple Ridge have once again prevailed, this time earning spots on the final 20-person Team BC roster for the National Women’s U18 Championship.

After completing an intensive prep camp, which saw the originally 26-person roster facing the Trinity Western University Spartans and losing back-to-back matches against the U17 BCEHL Valley West Giants, both Aurora Kahlert and London McDavid were named to the trimmed-down final list of players on the BC Hockey Program of Excellence (POE) team.

“Narrowing the roster down to just 20 players was tough, considering the abundance of talent in our branch,” said BC Hockey’s POE commissioner Fred Zweep.

Kahlert and McDavid are no strangers to playing for Team BC, with both girls having previously won gold back in March during the 2023 Canada Winter Games.

And now they will be returning to the national stage, but this time as part of the National Women’s U18 Championship in Dawson Creek, B.C.

“We can’t wait to see these women compete on home ice and see the program continue to grow from the success we saw at the 2023 Canada Winter Games,” said Zweep.
