Ridge Meadows RCMP believe alcohol was a contributing factor in a crash on the Golden Ears Bridge Wednesday night.

A 35-year-old man from Langley drove his Ford Focus into a guard rail while heading south on the span around 11 p.m.

Insp. Derren Lench said police arrived shortly after the crash and noticed the man appeared to be drunk.

A sample of his breath produced a ‘fail’ reading on a roadside screening device.

As a result, the man received an immediate roadside prohibition, which means his driver’s license was suspended for 90 days and his car is impounded for 30 days.

Medical grow rip

Five men barged into a Maple Ridge home early Wednesday in an attempt to steal a medical marijuana crop.

A man and woman inside called police around 5:45 a.m. and were unharmed in the home invasion on 228th Street.

Insp. Derren Lench said the men forced open the front door to the residence.

Police believe some of the men had weapons, but all left without taking anything once they realized Mounties were on the way.

A police dog was unable to locate the suspects.

“This appears to be a targeted attack on a medicinal marijuana growing operation,” said Lench.

“We have seen an increase in this type of criminal activity in the Lower Mainland lately.”

Dangerous driving

Police are recommending dangerous driving charges against a Pitt Meadows man following a crash early Monday.

The crash happened around 7:30 a.m. on Lougheed Highway, near Allen Way.

The man was travelling west when a 47-year-old woman in another car infuriated him by making a crude gesture in his direction.

Police allege the man then drove his car in front of the woman’s SUV, causing a collision.

The woman was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Break-in

A television, television monitor, sound system, lap top computer, cash and a cellular phone were stolen Monday morning during a break-in in Maple Ridge.

Thieves entered a house on River Road between 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. by climbing up to a second floor balcony and prying open a sliding glass door.

Business break-in

Jeans and hoodies were stolen from a downtown Maple Ridge business early Monday during a break-in.

Police were called to Pink Addictions on Selkirk Avenue around 5:30 a.m.

Thieves entered the store by removing glass from the front door.  Investigators believe the break-in happened an hour earlier around 4:30 a.m.
