Cellphone stolen in brazen robbery

Teen mugged in daylight in Maple Ridge on Davison Street

Ridge Meadows RCMP are looking for a pair of thieves who beat up a teenager last week in Maple Ridge and stole his cellphone.

The boy was approached by two young men around 12:20 p.m. on Davison Street and one of the men asked him for the time.

Police said the man then hit the teen on the back of his head and stole his cellular phone.

The two suspects ran north on Davison, then east on 124th Avenue.

“This is a brazen robbery that took place in the middle of the day, and we’re hoping a citizen is able to help us,” said Cpl. Alanna Dunlop.

The man who assaulted the teen is described as a dark-skinned man, possibly South Asian, between 17 and 18 years old, who was 5’9’’. He was wearing a black track suit with white stripes.

His accomplice is a white man, 15 to 17 years old, with short, spiky blond hair and some acne on his face. He was wearing a white zip-up jacket.

• Anyone with any information regarding this crime to call Ridge Meadows RCMP at 604-463-6251.

Missing men

Police are hoping the public can help them find two men who have been missing for several years.

Jacob ‘Jake’ Seagrave was last seen by his family in 2004, but was known to be living in Maple Ridge in 2006.

Police say he has led a transient lifestyle, and did not regularly contact his immediate family.

He was known to produce and sell unique spray paint artwork to support himself, and police have reports of this happening in Maple Ridge and more recently in Victoria’s Harbour area in 2012.

Seagrave is a white man, who is now 42 years old.  He was 5’9’’ and 160 pounds.  He has dark-blond, curly hair and green eyes.

Ridge Meadows RCMP are also asking for help in locating Donald Kelly, who has not been heard from since September 2011.

Kelly was last seen in the Lower Mainland and called both Surrey and Burnaby home. He also had connection to Nelson in the southeast part of B.C.

Kelly, 23, is 5’8’’ and weighs approximately 150 pounds.  He has green eyes and brown hair.

• Anyone with information about Jake Seagrave or Donald Kelly is asked to call Constable Chris Wilson at 604-467-7669.

Cellphone stolen in brazen robbery

A young man accused of stealing mail from several community mailboxes in Maple Ridge has been sentenced to 90 days in prison.

Brandon Russell Cumming-Hobson pleaded guilty to several criminal charges including identity theft, obstructing a peace officer, impersonation, possession of stolen property and trafficking in a used credit card.

The offences took place in January in Coquitlam and Maple Ridge.

Ridge Meadows RCMP named Cumming-Hobson as a person of interest  in April, alleging the 21-year-old was responsible for breaking into Canada Post mailboxes in the community.

Police issued a warrant for his arrest and Cumming-Hobson  was taken into custody after several weeks on the lam.

Cumming-Hobson was credited for 40 days he spent in pre-sentence custody.
